Students can join at any time, but starting at the beginning of a session is preferred. To sign up, please contact our team through the CONTACT US tab or use the Register For Chess Lessons button on our home page. New students are expected to know how the pieces move and have played games before at school or against family members.
There is a $40 registration fee for a set of 6 lessons per student; a second student from the same family can join for $20. If you are not sure if the lessons are right for your child, don’t worry, we offer one free trial lesson for every new student. You only pay, when you think your child can benefit from our lessons. New students and their parents are strongly encouraged to arrive by 6:15 to address any questions.
Lessons are organized in 6-week blocks. Each lesson consists of approximately one hour of guided instructions, followed by one hour of student chess play. The content of the lessons is aimed to prepare new students for their first tournament and to help students that already play in tournament to reach a rating of approximately 1000. The instructions cover of various topic from opening principles, basic tactical themes to endgames, but also included chess history, chess etiquette and tournament rules.
The tentative schedule for the chess lessons can be found here.
